Ken Ackerman
Elected to the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame, 2006
Ken Ackerman was elected to the
Bay Area
Radio Hall of Fame as a member of the first class of
inductees in 2006, in recognition of his significant
contributions to local radio as a broadcaster for six
decades, as a founding member of Broadcast Legends, and
for his dedication to preserving the history of local
radio.
He was also honored with the Charles David Herrold
Award by the
California Historical Radio Society, emblematic of
his work in preserving broadcast recordings, equipment
and facilities, and in striving to keep the stories of
those who worked in broadcasting alive for future
generations.
Mr. Ackerman broke into broadcasting as a high school
student in Sacramento, and arrived in San Francisco at
KQW as a staff announcer following his military service.
As KQW transitioned into KCBS, he became the popular
voice of the station's "Music Till Dawn" program, and
continued his career as a newscaster when KCBS segued to
its all-news format in 1968.
