
Doug Montgomery was one of two primaries involved in the creation and start-up of KCSM-TV at
the College of San Mateo, where he served as General Manager and Program Manager at the
Station, and Chairman of the Telecommunications Department at the College. He wrote, hosted
and produced numerous PBS television series and specials, and directed several thousand
television programs.
In recognition of these accomplishments, the Board of Governors of the San Francisco Chapter
of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (on which he served as Vice President
during the 70's) elected him a Charter Member of the Silver Circle, an honor awarded to those
having made a significant contribution to the television industry in Northern California.
Doug made the rounds starting as a production assistant at ABC in Hollywood (1946-48); staff
announcer at radio station KGEM-Boise (1948-49); studio manager and sales manager at
KUBC-Delta/Montrose, CO (1949-51; announcer and engineer at radio sttation KDON-Salinas
(1951-52); program director and news director of radio station KPMO-Pomona (1952-56); narrator
at TV station KTTV-Los Angeles (1953-59); Disc jockey and production engineer at radio station
KOGO (1956-60); studio engineer and part-tiome TV personality at TV station KOGO-San Diego
(1960-63).
On Sunday October 8, 2000, Doug lost a valiant battle with cancer. He will be missed.
